Broussard - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Edward Bonin, Sr. the former Claire Bernard, 104, will be held at 1:00PM on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Ruskoski and Fr. Keith Landry officiating. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church of Broussard on Friday, May 16, 2014 from 10:00AM until the time of the services with a recitation of the rosary at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A native and lifelong resident of Broussard Mrs. Bonin died at 8:00PM on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at her residence. She was a member several organizations which included, Legion of Mary; Sacred Heart League; Sacred Heart Ladies Alter Society; The Carmelite Guild; De LaSalle Auxiliary; and Sacred Heart Rosary Group Prayer Line. She was a 1927 graduate of St. Cecilia School; received the Bishop's Metal; and worked the Broussard Community Fair for over 60 years. She is survived by three sons, Edward Bonin, Jr. and his wife Lois of Lafayette, Daniel Bonin and his wife Linda of Lafayette, and Michael Bonin of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Nanette Prejean, Robin Sonnier, Guy Bonin, Mark Bonin, Michelle Bonin, and Jennifer Conzelmann; ten great grandchildren, and eight great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Bonin, Sr.; her parents, Jean Hazard Bernard, Sr. and Adonia B. Bernard; four brothers, Dennis Bernard, J. H. Bernard, Jr., Theodore Bernard, and Msgr. Daniel Bernard; four sisters, Jeanne Larriviere, Louisa Larriviere, Rhena Comeaux, and Carmen Guidry; and a great great grandson, Micah Moity. Serving as pallbearers will be Edward Bonin, Jr., Daniel Bonin, Michael Bonin, Allen Prejean, Guy Bonin, and Mark Bonin. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Beth, Iggy, and Dr. Hugh Larriviere of Hospice of Acadiana and her caregivers, Ruby and Phoebe. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be given to St. Cecilia School, The Carmelite Monastery, or Hospice of Acadiana.
