Erath - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Norman J. Romero, 79, will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon officiating. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Erath on Sunday, June 22, 2014 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary 7:00PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at LeBlanc Cemetery. A native of LeBlanc and a long time resident of Youngsville until he moved to Erath Mr. Romero died at 6:30AM on Friday, June 20, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. Mr. Norman proudly served his country in the National Guard then returned and worked as a farmer for many years. Later in life he started shrimping and did that until his health prevented him from doing it anymore. In 1977 he was acknowledged as the smallest farmer with the highest sucrose in his cane. In 2004 he was acknowledged for catching the most shrimp on opening day. He was known for his enjoyment of the outdoors, country music, watching cowboy shows, and his love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Olander Romero of Erath; two sons, Jason L. Romero and his wife Karen of Erath and Randall J. Romero and his wife Ellen of Erath; two grandchildren, Alison Romero and Andrew Romero; and a step granddaughter, Jordan Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemile and Eva Trahan Romero; and two brothers, John "Shirley" Romero and Harry Romero. Serving as pallbearers will be Ronnie Romero, John Simon, Troy Olander, Chad Cormier, Daniel Simon, and Thomas Olander. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Russell Olander and Rodney Olander. David Funeral Home of Erath at 209 E. Putnam St. (337)937-0405 will be handling the arrangements.
