New Iberia- a ceremonial scattering of ashes will be held at a later date for Mrs. Michael Hoover, the former Juanita Melancon, age 70. "Nitsy" as she was affectionately known, passed away on Monday June 30, 2014 at 12:50pm at a local nursing facility. Mrs. Hoover enjoyed cross stitching and sewing, visiting with her friends, and going on beach vacations with her family. Her family was the most important thing to her and she will always watch over them as an Angel in Heaven. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Kirk Sonnier and wife Annie of Maryland, Kendra Sonnier Vallot and husband Jubal of Cankton, Kirby Sonnier of Lacombe, La.; grandchildren, Ashley Sonnier of Youngsville, Kristin Sonnier of Cankton, Javan Sonnier of Denham Springs, Ezekiel "Zek" Sonnier of New Orleans, Laci Vallot of Scott, Shelah Sonnier of Hammond, Keilah Sonnier of Fort Polk, Joshua Vallot of Cankton; great grandchildren, Hayle Sonnier of Scott, Darrien Sonnier of Youngsville, Bailey Lavergne of Mire, Tevin Vallot of New Iberia, Cody Lavergne Jr. of Mire, Jakhi Harrison of Youngsville; siblings, Shirley Guillot and husband Bernie of New Iberia, Robert Melancon and wife Marian Lucas of Church Point, Raymond Melancon and wife Brenda of Breaux Bridge, Rita Boudreaux and husband Sid of New Iberia; godchildren, Tanya Crochet of New Iberia, Michelle Boudreaux of Broussard, and Nicholas Guillot of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Hoover; parents, Theodore and Avenia Touchet Melancon; and one daughter Krystal Sonnier.
