Jeanerette- Funeral services for Mrs. Jessie V. Higgins, the former Annie Kelley, age 85, will be held on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 11:00am at Jeanerette Full Gospel Church, 125 Higgins Rd. Jeanerette, with Reverend Jessie Lee Higgins as Celebrant and Reverend Frank Manguno as Con Celebrant. Interment will follow at Crossroad Tabernacle Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Jeanerette Full Gospel Church on Friday August 15, 2014 at 6:00pm. Visitation will resume all evening long and into the morning until service time. A native of Bayou Chene, and a resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Higgins passed away on Wednesday August 13, 2014 at 8:35am at a local nursing facility. She was an active member of her church and loved reading her Bible and working Bible lessons. Mrs. Higgins loved to decorate her Christmas village during the holiday season. She was a simple, hard working woman with a big heart. She was a wonderful wife and mother and will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband, Jessie V. Higgins, December would have made 67 years of marriage; children, Ophema McQuiston and husband Steve, Calvin Higgins Sr. and wife Cindy, Johnny Higgins and wife Cheryl, Lola Olander and husband Thomas, Jessie Lee Higgins and wife Mitsy all of Jeanerette, Trudy Chauvin and husband David of Franklin; four brothers; three sisters; fifteen grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruby Ashley Kelley; four brothers, three sisters; and her beloved pet Benji. Pallbearers will be David McQuiston, Calvin Higgins Jr., Jason Higgins, David R. Chauvin, Thomas J. Olander, and Joshua Higgins. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon McQuiston, Jessie Ray Higgins, John Higgins Jr., David Chauvin, and Jessie Lee Higgins Jr. David Funeral Home of Jeanerette, 400 Provost St. (337)276-5151 is in charge of arrangements.
