New Iberia - A Private Service for Mrs. Melvin J. Charpentier, Sr. the former Dorothy Hayes, 61, will be held at 3:30PM on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 with Deacon Russell J. Hayes, Sr. officiating. Interment will be at Holy Family Mausoleum at a later date. A native of Bayou Benoit and a resident of New Iberia Mrs. Charpentier died at 7:30PM on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at a Lafayette Hospital. She was known for her love for her family; crocheting, and volunteering at the ARC. She is survived by her husband of 47years, Melvin J. Charpentier, Sr. of New Iberia; a daughter, Susan Charpentier Savoie and her husband Lanie of Franklin; two sons, Melvin J. Charpentier, Jr. of New Iberia and Donald Charpentier and his wife Connie of New Iberia; two brothers, John Leston Hayes and his wife Linda of Loreauville and Deacon Russell J. Hayes, Sr. and his wife Connie of New Iberia; three sisters, Mary H. Frioux and her husband Walter of Jeanerette, Julia H. Simoneaux and her husband Stoney of Maurepas, and Rita H. Melancon and her husband Ronald of Catahoula; a brother in law, Bobby Courville, Sr. of Sulphur; a sister in law, Celestine Hayes of St. Martinville; ten grandchildren, Courtney Menard Charpentier, Selina Menard Charpentier, Cynthia Menard Charpentier, Sarah Charpentier, Ozzie Savoie, Brent Savoie, Dylan Charpentier, Kassidy Charpentier, Jonathan Charpentier, and Brandy Simon; three great grandchildren, Kenadie Savie, Treylan Linden, and Nya Ledet; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Leston Hayes, Sr. and Seraphine Lasseigne Hayes; two brothers, John D. Hayes and Joseph Ron Hayes; and a sister, Audrey Courville.
