Erath- A Mass of Christian Burial for J. Numa Broussard age 93, will be held on Monday September 15, 2014 at 3:00PM in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with Fr. Bill Melancon Officiating, Claire Carluen and Saul Broussard as readers, and organist Ms. Francis Toups accompanied by the church choir. Hymns will include Here I Am Lord, Hail Mary Gentle Woman, On Eagles Wings, and Battle Hymn of the Republic. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Erath on Sunday September 14, 2014 from 5:00PM until 9:00PM with a rosary at 7:00PM in the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday September 15, 2014 from 9:00AM until services. Interment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum. A Native of Meaux, LA and a resident of Erath, Mr. Broussard passed away at 9:15PM on Friday September 12, 2014 at his residence in Erath. He Served in the United States Coast Guard from October 1942 until December of 1945 in the Pacific Theater of World War II. Mr. Broussard obtained his degree in Education from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) and his Masters from LSU. He was an educator at Erath High School for twenty years and a supervisor for the Vermilion Parish School Board for thirteen years. Mr. Broussard was a proud member of the American Legion in Erath for over forty-five years. He loved being involved in the community and helping out with parish events. A few of his achievements included being appointed Grand Marshall of the Fourth of July parade in 1990 and named citizen of the year in 1996. Mr. Broussard was a genuinely loving man, having served his community and nation, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife of seventy-one years the former Mrs. Ledie Boudreaux; one son, Gerald Broussard and wife Phyllis of Henry LA; one daughter Marla Broussard; one daughter-in-law, Billie Robicheaux Broussard of Lafayette LA; one son-in-law, Cecil Chatman of Broussard LA; two brothers, Doyce Broussard and wife Beverly, Paul Broussard and wife Judy both of Meaux LA; two sisters, Hilda Mullican, and Dorothy Duhon of Kaplin LA; one sister-in-law, Rose Broussard of Meaux LA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and a lifelong friend Mr. Russel Suire of Erath LA. Preceeded in death by his parents, Minos Broussard and the former Ozite Vincent; one son, Glynn Broussard; one daughter, Phyllis Chatman; two grandchildren, Leah Broussard and Brandt Broussard; two brothers, Hilliard Broussard and Tom Broussard; and two sisters, Zula Trahan and Jeanne Stelly.
