Harold James Trahan

Lafayette ? Funeral services will be held for Harold J. Trahan, 80, at 11:00 AM Saturday October 18, 2014 in David Funeral Home, with Deacon Randy Hyde officiating Visitation will be held Friday October 17, 2014 from 10:00AM until 10:00 PM with a Rosary recited at 7:00 PM and will resume Saturday from 8:00AM until time of Services. Burial will follow in LeBlanc Cemetery. Mr. Trahan died peacefully at his home in Youngsville on Oct. 16, 2014 at 3:35 a.m. with his family around him. Trahan has hung up many hats: Graduating from Youngsville High School in 1952, he was awarded the American Legion Award along with his diploma. He attended SLI for a time then joined the U. S. Navy, stationed in Adak Alask. He served as a Communications Technician during the Korean Conflict. During this time he married his high school sweetheart, Della David of Youngsville, La. Discharged in 1955 he returned to USL to acquire a B.A. degree in education. He became a teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, Cub Scout master and acquired a Masters plus 30 credit hours from Jonquiere, Canada during this time. He Coached youth baseball, football and taught adult ed. Sports was his great love. He was loved by students, teachers, co-workers and parents. He never forgot any of them. He retired from the Laf. School Board from Alice Boucher in 1977 and went to work for the Parish of Laf. as Assistant Director of Community Affairs. He help design and construct the jogging path at Girard Park. He then went on to be Director of the Animal Shelter. Mr. Trahan also served on the original committee to consolidate the city and parish of Lafayette. He retired after 13 years. The baseball youth program awarded him the Joe E. Brown award for his dedication to the program. He was a member of the American Legion 401 of Laf. La. In retirement he became an avid golfer. After being a 30 years resident of Laf. La he moved his family back to Youngsville, where he began farming cattle and gardening. He served as Journey of Hope President a support group for the families of the Mentally Ill for 16 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Della David Trahan, 3 children, son Steven Michael Trahan, Cheryl Trahan Dugas and husband Richard, Mark Trahan and wife Michele Picou Trahan, 5 grandchildren: Elizabeth Dugas, Emily Dugas Boudoin and husband Shawn, Eric Dugas, Ethan Trahan and wife Kayla Arwood Trahan and Kade Trahan and 1 great-grand-daughter Kailey Boudoin. One Brother Clifford Trahan and wife Bernice, and one sister in law Mildred Broussard. He is preceded in death by His parents, Opta Trahan Sr. & Inez Trahan, a sister Gurli Broussard, and 2 brothers Opta Trahan Jr. and Alvin Trahan. Pallbearers are Ethan Trahan, Eric Dugas, Kade Trahan John Trahan, Jeremy Trahan, and Shawn Boudoin. Honorary Pallbearers are Mark Trahan, Mike Trahan, Richard Dugas and James Wyatt. In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Heart of Hospice. Ours greatest thanks goes out to all who assisted Mr. Trahan in his last days and to the American Legion.
