Gueydan - Funeral services for Verlin Ray Fontenot 72, will be held Friday, October 24, 2014 at 1:00PM at the First United Methodist Church in Gueydan, with Rev. Lamarylis Cotton officiating. Visitation will be held in the First United Methodist Church on Thursday, October 23, 2014 from 11:00AM until 9:00PM, and will resume on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 9:00AM until the time of services. Burial followed in the Gueydan Cemetery. Verlin was a native of Estherwood and resident of Gueydan, he passed away Tuesday October 21, 2014 at his residence in Gueydan. He was a 1962 graduate of Gueydan High School, retired farmer, and a member of Gueydan Masonic Lodge 429. He served in the Army National Guard. Survivors include his wife Bonnie Benoit Fontenot of Gueydan; three daughters Eddy and her husband Steven Karakos of Sealy TX., Shelley and her husband Alan Breaux of Rayne, Kayla and her husband Ted Breaux of Rayne; six grandchildren Sydney Breaux, Brad Breaux, Brett Karakos, Tyler Karakos, Kamrie Breaux, and Jude Breaux: two step grand children Addison Breaux, and Nikki Karakos. His nephew Sean Schexnider. He was preceded in death by his parents Alton "Tanny" Fontenot, and Geneva "Sis" Guillory Fontenot, his sister Jeanelle "Nell" Fontenot Schexnider. Serving as pallbeares will be Brett Karakos, Brad Breaux, Tyler Karakos, Jude Breaux, Alan Breaux, Ted Breaux, and Steven Karakos. Honoray pallbearers will be J. W. Breaux, T. L. Guillory, Jason Randal, David Simon, Lynn Spell, James Erbelding, David Hanks, Gilbert Redlich, Russell Fontenot, Gene LeJeune, David Richard, Floyd Zaunbrecher, Martin Zaunbrecher, Neal Zaunbrecher. David Funeral Home of Abbeville, 2600 Charity Street, (337) 893-3777 will be handling the arrangements.
