Jeanerette- Funeral services will be held for David James Bonin, Sr., age 74, on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 11:00am at David Funeral Home of Jeanerette with Reverend Blair Bonin to serve as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery in Franklin, La. Visitation will begin at David Funeral Home of Jeanerette on Sunday October 26, 2014 at 5:00pm and conclude at 9:00pm with a recitation of the rosary at 6:30pm. Visitation will resume the next morning at 8:00am until service time. A native of Jeanerette and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bonin passed away on Friday October 24, 2014 at 11:30pm at his residence. Mr. Bonin served his country as a member of the National Guard. He was a long time welding inspector at the Port of Iberia working for many companies throughout his career. He was a proud, dedicated, hard worker, and worked his way up from welder to quality control inspector. Mr. Bonin was an avid hunter and fisherman, and also enjoyed playing pool, golfing, dancing, and watching football and baseball. He was also a fantastic speller and a member of the Jeanerette JC's. He will be forever remembered for his distinguished gait and love of all things western. Mr. Bonin is survived by his sons, Blair Bonin and wife Dina of Baton Rouge; David "Davy" J. Bonin, Jr. and wife Jean of Youngsville; former wife, Fay Bonin of Charenton; step-sons, Michael Sanders and wife Christi of Houston, TX; Bobby Sanders, Jr. and wife Brittany of Charenton; step-daughter, Mary Robertson and husband Charles of Charenton; brother, Wallace "Boogie" J. Bonin, Jr. and wife Carolyn of New Iberia; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace Joseph Bonin, Sr. and Hazel Mendoza Bonin; and one daughter, Callie Lynn Bonin. Pallbearers will be Mr. Bonin's family and friends. A special thanks to Paramount Hospice and primary caregiver Fay Bonin for all of the loving care and compassion given to Mr. Bonin.
