LAFAYETTE-Funeral services will be held for Nathan "Blackie" Mayer, age 90, at an 2:00PM service on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at David Funeral Home in Lafayette. Deacon Cody Miller will be officiating at the services. Interment will follow St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Milton. Visitation will be held on Wednesday November 5, 2014 from 4:00PM until 10:00PM and continue on Thursday November 6, 2014 from 8:00AM until service time at David Funeral Home in Lafayette. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00PM Wednesday November 5, 2014 in the funeral home. Nathan "Blackie" Mayer Was born September 15, 1924 in Leonville, LA. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a sharpshooter. For his service, he received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, World War II Victor Medal, and the Occupation Medal Japan. After his service he became the owner of Iberia Glass for over 40 years. In his pass time, Mr. Mayer enjoyed cutting the grass, cracking pecans, playing cards and traveling. There were many things that he spent time doing, but is love was for spending time with his family. He was a loving son, husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. "Blackie" will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of sixty nine years the former Helen Fontenot of Youngsville, five sons; Nathan Wayne Mayer (Lupe) of California, Bobby O'Neal Mayer (Marlene) of Broussard, Cary James Mayer, Richard Keith Mayer (Laura), and John Fitzgerald Mayer (Robin) all of Youngsville, six daughters; Marsha Ann Miller (Mike) of Parks, Norma Faye Louviere (Raymond) of Youngsville, Patsy Eyde (Gary) of Breaux Bridge, Debra Lynn Boutin (Alton) of Lafayette, Cindy Castille (Phil) of Parks, and Regina Mayer (JR) of Houma, thirty eight grandchildren, sixty great-grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and his Chihuahua CiCi. He is preceded in death by his parents John Mayer and the former Marie Milda Trahan, one son; John Dale Mayer, one daughter; Darnell Warfel, three brothers; John Eric Mayer, Joseph Earl Mayer, and Harold "Pete" Mayer, two sisters; Gladys Meche, and Mary Grace Mayer, one grandchild Crystal Gale Mayer, two great-grandchildren; Avery Elizabeth Boutin, and Dillon Williams. Serving as his Pallbearers will be Jonathan Louviere, Billy Mayer, Darrell Miller, Ricky Ross, RJ Mayer, and Michael Mayer. Honorary Pallbearers will be Clyde Warfel Jr., Gary Eyde Jr., James Dale Mayer, Bryan Mayer, Nathan Mayer Jr., Scott Miller, Chris Mayer and Dennis Porrier.
