Jeanerette - Memorial services will be conducted for Mrs. Lurline Marie Broussard, 91, on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at 11:00 AM at David Funeral Home Chapel, 400 Provost St., with Father Jody Simoneaux officiating. Inurnment will follow in St. John the Evangelist Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A rosary will be recited in the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. A native of Jeanerette and a resident of Broussard, Mrs. Broussard passed away at 2:10AM on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in a New Iberia Hospital. Some of the highlights of her life include working as a telephone operator during World War II in order to stay close to her fiancé, soon to be husband, U.S. Marine John Broussard. She preferred to work nights in order to talk to Johnny while he was overseas. They raised five children and shared their lives for 62 years until John died in 2006. Lurline loved quilting, sewing, tatting and smocking. She enjoyed playing cards with friends, fishing, country western music, dancing and traveling in her younger days and going to the casino - especially on her birthday. She was an amazing cook and will be remembered as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother extraordinaire. Her faith and her religion carried her through the tribulations of her nearly 92 years. She is survived by her children; Barbara Matthews and her husband Randy of Arnaudville, Peggy Wilcox and her husband Ray of The Woodlands, TX, Larry Broussard and his wife Phyllis of Jeanerette. Grandchildren; Retired Master Sergeant Brooks Bergeron of Pensacola, FL, James Bergeron of Minneapolis, MN, Melissa Broussard of Youngsville, Kimberly Andrulis of Austin, TX, Kristin Wilcox of Austin, TX, Brandon Broussard of Houston, TX, Danielle Gohres of Hammond, Cody Broussard of Youngsville and Sam Viator of Lafayette. She also has twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Broussard; her parents, Oris Broussard and Inez LeBlanc Broussard; her sons, John Broussard, Jr. and Jerry Broussard; and one sister, Nell Cook. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to St. John the Evangelist Church, 1510 Church St., Jeanerette, LA 70544 for masses to be said in Mrs. Broussard's honor. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dwan Dooley, Natalie Aucoin and Marilyn Theall for the love and care which they gave to Lurline.
