New Iberia- Funeral services will be held for Mr. Robert Kenneth Tracy, age 80, on Saturday January 17, 2015 at 10:00am at the David Funeral Home Chapel with Father William Blanda to serve as the Celebrant. Reading from scripture will be Holly Tracy and James Hutchinson. Eulogy will be read by Robert K. Tracy, Jr. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Friday January 16, 2015 beginning at 3:00pm and concluding at 10:00pm with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00pm. Visitation will resume Saturday morning at 8:00am until service time. A native of New Orleans and resident of New Iberia, "Bob" as he was affectionately known passed away on Tuesday January 13, 2015 at 9:00pm at his residence. Mr. Tracy is a graduate of Jesuit High School of New Orleans, class of 1952. After high school, Robert attended Loyola Univerity. He worked his way through college and law school as a travel guide, leading groups all over the United States, Canada, and Europe. He graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Law degree. After graduating from law school, he worked in private practice, and in the 70's he was an assistant city attorney during the Moon Laudrieu administration. Mr. Robert also served on the court of appeals for the fifth circuit in New Orleans, La. After moving to New Iberia in 1980, he worked at Domengeaux and Wright Law Firm. After leaving there he had a private practice in New Iberia. Currently he serves as a 16th Judicial District Court Public Defender and Iberia Parish Drug Court Public Defender. He was also a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association for 57 years. As an avid horseracing fan, he served as the Mutual Clerk at the New Orleans Fairgrounds for many years in the 60s and 70s. He was loved by family and friends, and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Marcella Hutchinson Tracy of New Iberia; children, Dea Palmer and husband Carlos of Suwanee, GA, Suzanne Tracy and husband Fred Shumacher of Sugar Hill, GA, Heather Tracy of New Iberia, Heidi Tracy Henry and husband Brian of Maurice, Robert K. Tracy Jr. and wife Heather of Vass, North Carolina, John "Jack" McCreary Tracy and wife Holly of Montgomery, AL; brothers, John E. Tracy of Jackson, MS, Richard Thomas of New Orleans; sister, Marie Doretta Tracy Reilly of LaPlace; grandchildren, Andrew Palmer of Athens, GA, Maria Cardoso of Sugar Hill, GA, Roberto Cerqueira and wife Laura of Sugar Hill, GA, Jasmine Pinto, Blake Colby, Michael Tracy, and Declan Tracy all of Vass, NC, Isaac Henry, Anna-Sophia Henry, and Samuel Henry all of Maurice, and a 12th grandchild on the way; and one great grandson, Bentley Cerqueira of Sugar Hill, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Joseph Tracy and Marie Doretta Coogan Tracy; brothers, James J. Tracy, Harry T. Tracy; sisters, Eileen R. Tracy Waterman, Patricia Ann Tracy Lodaro; and one grandson, Thiago Campos.
