New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. John H. Valls Sr., the former Elaine Hernandez, age 83, will be held Monday February 2, 2015 at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10:00am with Father Nicholas DuPré officiating. Reading from the scriptures will be Raymond Bernard and Samantha Valls. Interment will follow at St. Peter Cemetery. Visitation will be at David Funeral Home in New Iberia on Sunday February 1, 2015 from 4:00pm until 9:00pm, with recitation of the rosary at 6:00pm. Visitation will resume on Monday February 2, 2015 at 8:00am until time of service. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Valls passed away on Friday January 30, 2015 at 7:05am at a local hospital. In her earlier years, Mrs. Valls worked as a secretary before becoming a homemaker. She enjoyed hosting card games, particularly the game of Bridge'. She loved socializing with her friends, practicing needle point, embroidery, cross stitching, and could always find time for a good book. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Mr. John Howard Valls Sr. of New Iberia; children, Ernie Valls and wife Jane of New Iberia, John Valls Jr. of New Iberia, Patrick "Pat" Valls and wife Lisa of St. Martinville, Phyllis Rourke and husband Ken of Katy Texas, Tracy Valls and friend Joyce Sonnier of New Iberia; sister, Vivian LeMaire of Gretna; and grandchildren, Jason Valls, M.D., Lacy Morrow, Laura Delcambre, Lindsay Valls, Brittany Valls, Patrick Valls Jr., Jeremy Valls, Matthew Valls, Sarah Carriere, Emily Rourke, Evan Rourke, and Chelsey Valls. Mrs. Valls is preceded in death by her father, Mr. Ernest Hernandez Sr.; her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Vincent Hernandez; her brother, Ernest Hernandez Jr.; sisters, Lillian Barrilleaux and Jerry Walker; and grandson, Jared Valls.
