Lafayette - Memorial services for Richard "Rick" Whalen Sr., age 44, will be held at 2:00PM in St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lafayette, Monday February 23, 2015. Fr. Brian Taylor will be officiating at the services. Visitation will be on Monday February 23, 2015 at 1:00PM in David Funeral Home of Lafayette until service time at 2:00PM. Mr. Richard "Rick" Whalen Sr. was born December 6, 1970 in Richmond Heights, MO and passed away in Houston, TX on Wednesday January 28, 2015. He was a resident of Broussard, LA and a parishioner of St. Genevieve Catholic Church. Rick was married in 1999 and became a father later that year. His many hobbies included rebuilding his 1976 Corvette Stingray, inventing and building new things, drawing schematics and whales, playing angry birds, reading, online gaming, and everything electronic. He was a softy when it came to animals, always bringing the ones left behind and giving them a home. Rick was an all around creative man and had the mind of an engineer. His career afforded him the opportunity to travel the world and experience many cultures. He was always hard at work and enjoyed his days working as a Completions Technical Advisor for IPT Global. Rick also loved trying to make people laugh, even if he wasn't as funny as he always thought he was. When Rick met someone, he didn't just meet them; he made a friend for life. Rick's love and passion was for his family. He loved to barbecue but unfortunately for everyone else, it would usually come out burned. That was him though; always being social and forgetting that he was even cooking. Rick enjoyed camping and playing chess with his son Ricky, and with his daughter Camille, he was always complementing her on her art and reminding her how pretty she is. He was a loving husband and father and his family was his life. He went the extra mile to provide an outstanding life full of opportunities for his wife and children. Going above and beyond for them and with him was his greatest treasure. Survivors include: his wife of sixteen years, Marsha Winkeler Whalen; one daughter, Camille Whalen; one son, Richard Whalen Jr.; father, Richard S. Whalen of Crowley; mother-in-law June Winkeler of Allen, TX; four brothers, Mel Whalen (who is his twin) and wife Jennifer of Sulphur, Sean Whalen and wife Melinda of Lake Charles, Phillip Whalen of Kaplan, and Frank Whalen of Lake Charles; one brother-in-law, John Winkeler (Wendy)of Allen, TX; three nieces, Shawna Whalen, Kyla Whalen and Anna Winkeler, and five nephews, Lawson Whalen, Dylan Whalen, Drake Whalen, Micah Whalen and Jacob Winkeler. He is preceded in death by his mother the former Barbara Aucoin, father-in-law Francis Winkeler, and one nephew Kyle Whalen. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.davidfuneralhome.org. David Funeral Home 316 Youngsville Hwy 337-837-9887 is in charge of arrangements.
