Lafayette -In memory of William "Bill" Huson Ables, age 88, who passed away at his residence March 3, 2015. Military Funeral Honors will be held at a later date at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX. William Huson Ables was born May 20, 1926 in Winters, TX. He Joined the U.S. Naval Service in January 1944. He served on the USS. Anacostia(A094) and was honorably discharged on May 20, 1946 as a Radioman 3rd class. After WWII, he traveled to the Rocky Mountains of British Columbia in search of adventure. He owned and piloted two airplanes, hunted bear and panned for gold with a lifelong friend. It was there he met Joan Machin who he married just a few months later. They were married for nearly 60 years. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend. He worked hard his entire life to provide for his family, retiring after twenty six years from Tenneco Oil Company. He was a man of simple needs, great character, as honest as they come, and true blue. You couldn't hope to meet a nicer guy. Survivors include his only son, William K. Ables and wife Elizabeth of Youngsville, LA; and three daughters; Shelley Lakes and husband Dan of Apex, NC; Lesley Ables of Youngsville, LA, and Glynis Cerro and husband Eric of Louisville, KY. He had eleven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife; Joan Machin Ables, parents; Luther R. Ables and Elizabeth Easley Ables, and one brother; Robert Ables, and sister-in-law, Kitty Ables.
