Mrs. Velma DesOrmeaux was born in Lafayette, LA on Nov. 2, 1930 and passed away on March 29, 2015, which was Palm Sunday, at Pelican Pointe Healthcare and Rehabilitation Facility. She married John Aston DesOrmeaux, Jr. on November 8, 1947. While in the Navy they traveled throughout many states as well as in Europe. Eventually they settled in Erath, the home of family members. If everyone in this world were as strong as Velma, we could live a happier life without the need for material goods. In addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, catechism teacher, Eucharistic Minister, store clerk, and devout Catholic, she will also be remembered for her beautiful poems she wrote for family and community members because she took the time to observe the simple things in life and then describe them. She has two poem books published. They are beautiful because she is a beautiful human being. In addition to the above, Velma also served as a Catholic Daughter, Lay Carmelite, helped to organize the Children of Mary in Delcambre, was a member of the Ladies Altar Society in Youngsville, and is a current member of St. Anne's Society at St. John's Cathedral in Lafayette.
