Curtis Joseph Bodin, Sr.

New Iberia - Funeral services will be conducted for Curtis Joseph Bodin, Sr., 94, on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Nicholas DuPre' officiating. Readers for the mass will be Jennifer McPeters and Bobby Bodin. Burial will follow in Holy Family Mausoleum. Visitation will be on Friday, May 22, 2015, from 11:00 AM until 9:00 PM and resume on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 8:00 AM until the service time. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Friday at 6:00 PM. A native of Erath and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Bodin passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 12:52 PM at his residence. He worked on the family farm and then went on to work at the Jefferson Island Salt Mine. While working at the salt mine in the late 1930's he formed and was the band leader of the Midnight Serenader's. He then moved on during World War II and assisted with the building of the PBY Aircraft known as the "Catalina". After building the aircrafts he went to work for Curtiss Candy Company as a Salesman and later became District Manager. He then moved back to New Iberia in 1956 and began a career in the Vending Machine Business. He was known to many as "The Candy Man" servicing vending machines in many schools in the Acadiana area. He was also a Radio and Television Technician. He was a supporter of NISH Sports and served as NISH Quarter Back Club President for two terms. He was an Usher at St. Peters Catholic Church for many years, was a Adult Leader for Boy Scout Troop 133 for many years, loved gardening and raising Appaloosa Horses. He loved his family especially his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Dolores B. Lanza of New Iberia, Curtis Bodin, Jr. and his wife Debbie of Lafayette, Bobby Bodin, Sr. and his wife Liz of New Iberia, Ronnie M. Bodin and his wife Susan, Tina B. Pyne and her husband Joe all of Houston, TX, Stephanie K. Bodin and her husband Dale of Birmingham, AL and Errol P. Bodin and his wife Kristin of Charlotteville, VA; his sisters, Janelle B. Duhon and her husband Jimmy of Kaplan and Vernola Guilbeau and her husband Paul of Lafayette; his brother, Nolan Bodin and his wife Phyllis of Covington; his grandchildren, Mike Lanza, Jr., Patrick Lanza, Eric Lanza, Cindy L. Falterman, Jennifer H. McPeters, Pam H. Garb, Michelle H. Dutile, Tracy B. Laventure, Curtis "C. J." Bodin, III, Aimee' B. Plummer, Natalie B. Martin, Bobby Bodin, Jr., Brad Bodin, Ronnie Bodin, Jr., Karen B. Rincon, Cameron Pyne, Janice Weeks, Kristen Fegale, Ben Weeks, Nikolas Bodin, Laci Bodin, Alexis Bodin, Connor Bodin and Nathan Bodin; thirty-nine great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren and his special friend, Bernice Hebert of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Elda Richard Bodin; his father, Sydney Bodin; his mother, Dulcide Menard Bodin; his daughter, Dorothy "Dot" Landry; his brothers, Harold Bodin, Lloyd Bodin and Harris Bodin and his sisters, Irene B. Granger, Hazel B. Dugas and Shirley Bodin. Pallbearers will be Bobby Bodin, Jr., Nikolas Bodin, C. J. Bodin, III, Ronnie Bodin, Jr., Brad Bodin, Pat Lanza, Pam Garb and Cindy L. Falterman. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Heart of Hospice, especially Melody Coleman and the Staff at Garden View Assisted Living in New Iberia. The family would prefer memorials to New Iberia Senior High School Athletics or Catholic High School Athletics.
