New Iberia - Funeral services for Mr. Fred "Fido" August Thomas Sr., age 86, will be conducted on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 10:00 am at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father Ed Degeyter officiating. Reading from scripture will be Ellen and Linda Thomas. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Monday, May 25, 2015 at 5:00 pm until 9:00pm, and resume on Tuesday May 26, 2015 at 8:00 am. A recitation of the Rosary will take place at 7:00 pm on Monday. A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, "Fido" as he was affectionately known, worked for Standard Supply Company doing a number of jobs until he retired after 28 years of service. After retirement he worked for National Oil Well., and as a truck driver for E.P. Breaux. "Fido" was an avid saltwater fisherman, loved to cook, boil crawfish, and spend time at the casino. In 1984, he attended the World's Fair, which was hosted in New Orleans and demonstrated his love of roasting pigs. Many people from all over the world were able to taste a little bit of the south thanks to "Fido's" talent. He was a well known track star and played football in his teenage years at St. Martinville High School. "Fido" was loved dearly, and his memory will be cherished by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Fay Boutte Thomas, who he married on October 5, 1952; his sons, Zie S. Thomas Sr and wife Linda of Loreauville; and Fred A. "Fredy" Thomas Jr. and wife Ellen of New Iberia; grandchildren, Zie S. Thomas Jr. and wife Lauren of Lafayette; Sheri Kay Sorrel and husband Steven of New Iberia; Ariana Thomas of Loreauville; Allison Thomas and boyfriend Drew Lasseigne of New Iberia; Emily Thomas of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Zachary Thomas; Gabrielle Sorrel; and Madison Sorrel; Sisters, Lucille "Tuttie" Billeaud of Lafayette; Aline Oubre of Loreauville; and Shirley Romero and husband Robert of St. Martinville. He is preceded in death by his father, R.L. "Zie" Thomas Sr; his mother, Alida Fuselier Thomas; son, Timothy Thomas; siblings, Margaret Delahoussaye; R.L. Thomas Jr.; Helen Trail; and Millie Broussard; great-grandchildren Madison Fuqua; Morgan Fuqua; Seth Sorrel; and Brie Sorrel. Those upholding the honor of Pallbearer include Zie Thomas Sr., Fred A. Thomas Jr., Zie Thomas Jr., Drew Lasseigne, Robert Romero, and Ed Oubre. Ed Buillard will serve as an Honorary Pallbearer. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to all of the caretakers from Leading Healthcare, Erin Gachassin, Shelia Leger, and all of the staff from Bridgeway Hospice.
