Joseph Manuel Gonzalez, Sr.

New Iberia- A memorial Mass will be held for Mr. Joseph Manuel Gonzalez Sr. , age 81, on Saturday June 20, 2015 at 1:00pm at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Mgsr. Richard Green to serve as the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Beau Pre Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church on Saturday beginning at 11:00am until time of Mass. A native of Waterbury, Connecticut and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Gonzalez passed away on Wednesday June 17, 2015 at 10:30pm at his residence with his family by his side. Mr. Gonzalez was employed for 31 years with the Iberia Parish Government as the Executive Director of Sewer District 1. He enjoyed going to the casino, watching westerns, fishing, and hunting and was an avid duck hunter. In his younger days he enjoyed playing golf. He also served on the board of directors at Acadian Ballpark for 15 years. He was a hard working, dedicated, and well liked man and will be missed by many. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Betty Gonzalez of New Iberia; son, Joseph Gonzalez Jr. and wife Lisa of California; daughters, Janet Derwin and husband Tommy of Connecticut, Amanda Gonzalez of New Iberia; step-daughter, Marlene Hardy and husband Richmond of New Iberia; grandchildren, Jason Derwin and wife Jodie of Connecticut, Rory Derwin and wife Tracie of Connecticut, Jeremy Gonzalez and wife Ashley of New Iberia, Justin Gonzalez and wife Tracy of California, Briana Hardy and Jené Hardy both of New Iberia; great grandchildren, David, Alliya, and Elijah Gonzales all of New Iberia, Noah and Amael Gonzalez both of California, and Haley and Riley Derwin both of Connecticut; and sister, Isabelle White of Connecticut. He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Jeanette Ciccarelli Gonzalez, and brother-in-law, Frank White. The family would like to express their gratitude to Mr. Gonzalez's niece, Anita Boudreaux for her care and compassion.
