New Iberia - Memorial services will be conducted for Russell J. "Jim" Romero, age 74 on Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 11:00 AM at the Church on the Rock with Rev. Ryan Derouen officiating. A gathering of the family will be at the church on Saturday, August 15, 2015, from 10:30 AM until 11:00 AM. A native of Lafayette and a resident of Coteau, Mr. Romero passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, at 11:50 PM in a New Iberia nursing facility. Affectionately known to his family as "Pop", he was a retired truck driver and his CB Handle was "Flying Star". Along with his family he loved his puppy, "Paccino". He like to watch western movies and play poker games on his computer. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth Mallet Romero of Coteau; his sons, Erick John Romero and his wife Wanda of New Iberia and Christopher James Romero of Coteau; his brothers, Allen Romero and his wife Patricia of Bossier City, Raymond Romero and his wife Lula of Coteau and Terry Romero and his wife Jan; his sister, Suzy Melancon and her husband David of Coteau; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, P. Nedas Romero and his mother, Edmia Romero Romero. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions.
