A native of St. Martin Parish, resident of Lake Charles, and longtime resident of Loreauville, "Ms. Nick" as she was affectionately known passed away Wednesday July 29, 2015 at 4:30pm at a Lake Charles Hospice Facility. Olympe was co-owner and operator of Nick's Cash and Carry in Loreauville for 15 years alongside her husband Nicholas Borel. She then worked as a Sales Associate at Wal-Mart until her retirement. Olympe had a knack for sewing and quilting. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed taking old and beat-up furniture, clothes, and car interiors and making them new again. And being the loving grandmother she was, she would also hand quilt a personalized blanket for each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mrs. Borel also enjoyed flower gardening, traveling with family and friends, and documenting her genealogy. Mom, as she was referred to, was a wonderful cook. Whether making chili for the football games or cooking for her children and their friends, she was always happiest surrounded by smiling faces and full tummies. Olympe had an adventurous spirit and a proclivity for being a fighter, having survived cancer. But all of her outstanding qualities paled in comparison to her faith in the Lord. She was a devout Catholic and could often be found praying for her family and others in the adoration chapel. Her loving, caring, and resolute spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her children Nicholette "Nickie" Borel Savoy and husband David of Sulphur, Geraldine Mae Borel and partner Lucy Miller of Baytown, TX, Barry Louis Borel and wife Patricia of Tyler, TX, Timothy John Borel and wife Veronica of New Iberia; grandchildren, Clay Louis Savoy and wife Jackie Michelle of Lake Charles, Andeé Savoy Bowes and husband Christopher Ryan of New Orleans, Cody James Borel and Jesse Louis Borel both of Tyler, TX, Staci Lynn Borel Berry and husband Kenneth Ross of Denver, CO, Danielle Borel Judice and husband Nathan of Baton Rouge, Gabrielle Reneé Borel of Baton Rouge; great grandchildren, Payton, Julia, and Grant Savoy all of Lake Charles; one sister, Edia "Daye" Bourque Borel of Loreauville; and one sister-in-law, Laura Belle Bourque. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Nicholas Borel; parents, Alphonse Henry Bourque Sr. and Clemence Berthelot Bourque; and nine siblings, Elton Bourque, Elda Bourque Braquet, Ella "Lala" Bourque Borel, Henry "Jun" Bourque Jr., Edna Bourque Albert, Marie Bourque Tabor, Jeanne Bourque Broussard, Elmo "Boonie" Bourque, and Howard Bourque. Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are David Savoy, Tim Borel, Barry Borel, Clay Savoy, Christopher Bowes, Cody Borel, Jesse Borel, and Payton Savoy. Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Boudreaux, Grant Savoy, Carl Bourque, Darren Bourque, Ira Bourque, Larry Braquet, and Michael Shuptrine Sr. The family would like to thank the staff at Stonebridge Assisted Living and Roxanne Nutt for their care and compassion.
