She was married to her husband, Mr. Opta Leblanc for the past 68 years. They were married on May 4, 1947. Ms. Leblanc went by the nickname "Tootsie" as most of her friends, nieces and nephews called her. She was a woman of many, many talents but most of all she loved sewing. She was a seamstress and worked at West Broth., and John T's Men's Store in Abbeville. She also sewed baby clothes for Flo's Baby Land in Abbeville in her younger days. She was a farmer's wife and did many farm duties with, and along side her husband. They raised chickens, managed their own dairy farm and later became rice and bean farmers as well as raising cattle. On the farm together they raised two children whom they taught many responsibilities and the love of farm life. Ms. Elsie belonged to many organizations throughout her life such as the Rosary Group in the Leblanc community, the Lady's Alter Society and the Catholic Daughters Assoc. She was also involved in the Vermilion Parish Home Demonstration club for many years and had formed a group called "The Sewing Club" with her many friends and family who also loved to sew, talk and drink coffee. These women would gather on Wednesday's for that particular purpose. After their retirement Ms. Elsie and her husband traveled together on many trips throughout the United States going on bus trips and cruises with family and friends. When grandchildren came , they enjoyed the life of the farm as well and enjoyed spending countless hours visiting. Not many days went by that they didn't get a visit from one of them, or all of them. That's what growing up next to maw maw meant. They fondly remember their grandmother's sleepovers with pallets right next to her bed, baking cookies, making tarts, playing cards or just talking. They loved to hear her tell them stories from her younger days. God has blessed us with many years with our mom and maw maw and our core memories of her will never be forgotten. She was a sweet, gentle soul and if you were privileged enough to have met her, you would say the same! Mrs. Elsie is survived by her husband Opta (Black) Leblanc of 68 years.
