Jeanerette - Funeral services will be conducted for Gilfred J. "Pete" Pontiff, Jr., 91, on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Jody Simoneaux officiating. Burial will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Graveside Rites by the U. S. Army Honor Guard and the New Iberia Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Thursday, September 3, 2015, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Friday, September 4, 2015, at 8:00 AM until 9:45 AM. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 PM. A native of Patterson and a resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Pontiff passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at 4:28 AM at his residence. Mr. Pontiff was employed with Shell Oil Company for 33 years. He was a Veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Army in the 28th Infantry Division, 103rd Medical Battalion in which he received the Silver Star of Valor and the Good Conduct Medal and was Honorably Discharged as a 1st Sgt. He loved his garden and gatherings with family and friends. He is survived by his children, Roy Pontiff and his wife Linda, Debra Estilette and her husband Jim all of New Iberia, Peggy Landry, Jody Pontiff and Marty Pontiff and his wife Michelle all of Jeanerette; his brother, Donovan Pontiff and his wife Evelyn of Franklin; his grandchildren, Renae Trahan and her husband Hunter of Lafayette, Brandon Pontiff, Casey Moresi both of New Iberia, Tyler Pontiff and Timothy Pontiff both of Jeanerette and his great grandchildren, Courtney Trahan of Lafayette, Kylen Moresi of New Iberia, Jacob Trahan, Kennedy Moresi and Emerson Pontiff all of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Landry Pontiff; his father, Gilfred J. Pontiff, Sr.; his mother, Hazel Delaune Pontiff; his son-in-law, Lynn Landry and his sister, Shirley Pontiff Moreau. Pallbearers will be Roy Pontiff, Marty Pontiff, Jim Estilette, Brandon Pontiff, Tyler Pontiff, and Kylen Moresi Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Trahan and Timothy Pontiff.
