Margaret Elizabeth "Bunny" Casselman

Jeanerette--Margaret H. "Bunny" Casselman, aged 84, passed away at her home in Jeanerette, LA on October 8, 2015, after a brief battle with cancer. Bunny, the first of four children, was born February 17, 1931 to Royal Charles Hodson and Juanita Crawford Hodson, and grew up on the family farm outside Raceland, LA. She graduated valedictorian of her class at Raceland High School in 1948. Starting her college career at Francis T. Nicholls Junior College (now Nicholls State University) in Thibodaux, LA, she transferred to Louisiana State University two years later to pursue her degree in Social Studies/Library Science Education. Upon graduation, she taught school for a year, then returned to LSU to obtain her Master's Degree in Library Science, with an Assistantship in the Serials Department at Hill Memorial Library on the campus of LSU. In July of 1955, Bunny married Theron W. Casselman, of Jeanerette, LA. She worked briefly at the Louisiana State University before the family moved to Ames, IA where she took a job at the Iowa State University Library. In 1959, they moved to Belle Glade, Florida. Bunny became a stay-at-home mom to raise their three children. In her spare time she was active with the Belle Glade Presbyterian Women's Circle and the Belle Glade Library Board. Returning to Louisiana in 1973, Bunny spent the next 20 years with the St. Mary Parish public school system, the first year as librarian of the Berwick Elementary School, and the following 19 as the librarian at Franklin Senior High School. Bunny was a 35 year member of Delta Kappa Gamma (an educational society for women educators). She was also a long time member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Franklin, where she was the organist for many years, and supplied and arranged the flowers for Sunday services. Most recently she attended the First Presbyterian Church of Iberia Parish. After retirement, Bunny enjoyed time spent reading, traveling, playing her piano, arranging the beautiful flowers grown by her husband and attempting to complete the puzzle page of the Morning Advocate newspaper and 5000 piece jigsaw puzzles. Bunny leaves behind her husband of over 60 years, Theron W. Casselman; daughter Sydney Casselman (husband Russell Broussard) of Jeanerette, LA; daughter Leslie Casselman (husband Randy Linker) of Dallas, TX; son, Bret Casselman, of Jeanerette, LA.; and two granddaughters, Shelby and Skylar Linker, of Dallas, TX. In addition, surviving Bunny are her two sisters and one brother, their spouses, an uncle, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also left behind are others held close to her heart, the children and grandchildren of her daughters' spouses, and many dear and faithful friends. A memorial service will be held at David's Funeral Home of Jeanerette, 400 Provost St., Jeanerette, La. 70544 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2015. Burial will be in Loisel Memorial Park in Jeanerette at a later date in a private family ceremony. The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation for all the prayers and acts of kindness.
