Jeanerette--Donald "Darnell" J. Bodin, Sr., whose sparkle and humor warmed the lives of countless people, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 04, 2015 at 9:30 AM at the age of 93 in Gulf Breeze, FL where he resided since 2008. Darnell was born on September 30, 1922 to Paul and Valerie Pitre Bodin in Ashton, LA. He joined the Merchant Marines at nineteen years old and served on the S.S. Texas Sun. His military honors included: Atlantic War Zone Medal, Merchant Marine Emblem, Honorable Service Button, Pacific War Zone Medal and Victory Medal. He worked on the family sugar cane farm for nineteen years at Four Corners. He also worked at Ashland Chemicals for twenty-seven years. His interests included fishing, hunting and cooking. His specialities were boiled crabs, crawfish and gumbo. Darnell always made a lasting impression on people with his great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy "Dot" Guiberteau Bodin, of 63 years, currently residing in Gulf Breeze, FL; daughter, Rebecca "Becky" LaRose (Paul) of Gulf Breeze, FL; son, Donald "Donnie" Bodin, Jr. (Marjorie) of St. Augustine, FL; daughter, Pauline "Polly" Bodin of Jacksonville, FL; grandsons, Matthew LaRose and Blake Bodin; granddaughters, Lauren LaRose Farrell (Paul), Kristin Bodin, Aimee LaRose, and Alyssa Bodin. Darnell was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Valerie Bodin; his brothers, Eany, John, Russell, Ervin and Clemille; one sister, Laura Bodin Simpson and his grandson Neil LaRose. Funeral services for Donald J. Bodin, Sr. "Darnell", 93, will be held on November 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at David Funeral Home with Father Jody Simoneaux officiating. Burial will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday, November 14, 2015 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM, just before the funeral service.
