New Iberia - Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Sherry A. Lopez, the former Gaelyn "Gail" Melancon, 80, on Monday, November 16, 2015, at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Steve LeBlanc officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation will be on Monday, November 16, 2015, from 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM and a rosary will be recited in the funeral home at 11:00 AM. A native of Crowley and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Lopez passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015, at 9:25 AM in a New Iberia nursing facility. She was the Director at St. Francis Diner for 10 years; a CCD Teacher for 17 years; Volunteered for many organizations; was a Eucharistic Minister & served on the Parish Service Committee and RCIA team at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church; was a 1998 Lay honoree at the Bishop's Charity Ball for the Diocese of Lafayette; a member of Come Lord Jesus groups at Mt Carmel and her home and the Rosary Group. She was also a member of the Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission, Legion of Mary, Little League Mom and Cub Scout Mom. She started the "Minute Ministry" and an empowerment program for the poor in New Iberia and was a former coordinator of the Iberia Parish Food Bank. She is survived by her sons, William Lopez and his wife Sue, Scott Lopez and his wife Mary and Marc Lopez and his wife Paige all of New Iberia; her daughters, Susan LeBlanc and her husband Shane of Coteau and Anne Lopez and her fiance' Eric Markovics of Riverside, CA; her sister, Rosemary Cormier of New Iberia; her grandchildren, Steve Lopez, Amy Rhoades, Ryan Lopez, Sherri Livesay, Blake Lopez, Matthew Lopez, Marcus Lopez, Brooke Bouy, Britney Alleman, Maria Pulido, Kayla Pulido, Braylin Lopez, Brianna Lopez and her great grandchildren, Cade Rhoades, Noah Landry, Emma - Claire Livesay and Carson Livesay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sherry A. Lopez; her father, Leonce Melancon; her mother, Bernadette Chiasson Melancon; her sons, Bryan and Paul Lopez and her brother, Eddie Mendoza. Pallbearers will be Matthew Lopez, Marcus Lopez, Ryan Lopez, Scott Lopez, Marc Lopez and Phil Livesay.
