New Iberia--A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Alvin Peter Verdun, 64, at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 5, 2015, at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Lydia with Father Emmanuel (Manny) Hernandez officiating. Interment will be in St. Nicholas Catholic Church Cemetery in Patoutville.
Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2015, at David Funeral Home with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The funeral home will close at 10:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at 7:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas Catholic Church on Saturday until the time of service.
Mr. Verdun died on Monday, November 30, 2015 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
A native and lifelong resident of Grand Marais, he was an Army SP5 veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an Exxon employee for 35 years. Mr. Verdun was also a member of St. Jude Unit 179 Knights of Peter Claver and Holy Name Society. In 2013, he was inducted into the New Iberia Recreation Dept. Softball Hall of Fame.
Mr. Verdun was the husband of Geraldine DeRouen Verdun and the son of the late Paul Peter Verdun and Zenobia Boutte Verdun.
Mr. Verdun was a devote Catholic whose faith was strong. He walked hand in hand with God and was a true man of God.
He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Michael A. Guillory, Mitchell P. Guillory(Missy), Jerrod J. Guillory(Amy) all of Grand Marais. Three sisters, Melva Verdun Patton(Johnny), Olena Verdun Arrington(Calvin) of Grand Marais, and Irma Verdun of Lafayette. In-laws Joann D. Jones, Chester DeRouen, Jr.(Immaculate), Joseph T. DeRouen, Sr.(Kathleen), and Estelita D. Wilson(Charles). Six grandchildren Kristi G. Freeman(Paul), Kelli E. Guillory, Travis M. Guillory, Alexi G. Guillory, Rhyan A. Guillory, and Chloe A. Guillory. Two great-grandchildren Reed J. Freeman and Palin E. Freeman. A host of nephews, nieces, godchildren, relatives, and friends all of whom will remember his unrelenting faith in God.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Verdun, and brother-in-law Ransom B. Jones, Jr.
Active Pallbearers are Russell Collins, Marcus R. Olivier, Ron C. Patton, Mike Bigler, Damian Duffy, and Elridge R. Little.
Honorary Pallbearers are Louis W. Boutte, Leonard Olivier, Joseph W. Collins, Whitney Jeanminette, Paul Tauriac, Edward Brown Sr., Michael P. Verdun, and Calvin R. Arrington, III.
