Jeanerette- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Barbara Frances Landry Mestayer, 85, on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 10:00AM at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Jody Simoneaux to serve as the Celebrant. Reading from scripture will be Hilari Mestayer and Danny Mestayer. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Mausoleum.
Visitation will begin on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 4:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM by the Men’s Rosary Group. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 from 8:00AM until service time.
A native and resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Mestayer passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at 5:15PM at a local hospital.
Mrs. Mestayer was a woman of faith, a devout Catholic and lifelong Parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. She was a huge Elvis Presley fan, having visited Elvis’ home in Graceland 22 times with her husband and loved collecting Elvis Memorabilia. She was a long time supporter of St. Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis. She also enjoyed watching old movies and the Golden Girls, eating out with family and friends, going for rides in the country, and getting together with her Elvis friends. Mrs. Mestayer would often share stories from her passed, like how she had to churn butter as a girl. Her favorite story was how she had to walk to work at the “Picture Show”, and how one day while making the popcorn she met the man she would spend the rest of her life with, her husband of 62 years, Venard “Van” Mestayer.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Scott Mestayer Sr. of Broussard, Randall Mestayer & wife Trisha of Charenton, Barbara "Bobbie" Louviere & husband Farrell of Jeanerette, Shelly Boutte & husband Jason of New Iberia, Julie Dooley & husband Neil of New Iberia, Van Mestayer and wife Phyllis of Jeanerette; Grandchildren, Amanda Hebert of New Iberia, Tammy Louviere of Houma, Tiffany Boutte and husband Beau of Youngsville, Stacey Mestayer of Lafayette, Scott Mestayer, Jr. of Lafayette, Blake Boutte and wife Lacie of New Iberia, Lance Boutte and girlfriend Alyson of Broussard, Andrea Sibille and husband Keith of Baton Rouge, Daniel Mestayer of Jeanerette, Kira Mestayer of Breaux Bridge, and Hilari Mestayer of Lafayette; Great Grandchildren, Caitlin Hebert of New Iberia, Ashton Sonnier of Lafayette, Alex M. Sibille of Baton Rouge, and Elyse Sibille, of Baton Rouge; Sister, Leah Bonin and husband Ulysse of Youngsville and Sister, Catherine Bonin of Jeanerette.
She was preceded in death by her Husband, Venard "Van" Mestayer; Father, Francis Landry; Mother, Inez Brown Landry, Sister, Inez McDaniel, and three Brothers, Harold Landry, Allen Landry, Kenneth Landry.
Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Scott Mestayer, Van Mestayer, Randall Mestayer, Farrell Louviere, Neil Dooley, and Jason Boutte. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mrs. Mestayer's Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Vigilant and Grace Home Health, the Iberia Medical Center Staff and Doctors, Priests and prayer supporters, and Mrs. Mestayer’s home helpers and all who gave support in any way.
