Thelma "Dee" Slaughter

A memorial service to celebrate the life Thelma "Dee"  Thorne Samples Slaughter will be held Tuesday January 19, 2016 at 11:00AM on what would have been her 84th birthday, at David Funeral Home of Erath. Visitation will be held from 10:00AM until time of service.

Thelma was delivered January 19, 1932 by mid-wife Mae Irvin in Rooster Creek in Belington, West Virginia to her late parents Murel Dale Thorne and Mamie Lee Armstrong Thorne both from Belington, West Virginia.

Thelma worked for Homer Laughlin in Newell, West Virginia until retiring in 1980. She moved to Louisiana after her first granddaughter, Karla, was born in 1982. She  started taking care of Dr. Segura in Abbeville and enjoyed taking him to church at St. Theresa Church every Sunday until he passed away. Thelma enjoyed family gatherings and going out and spending time with her friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening and especially caring for her flowers, she enjoyed being outdoors.

Due to recent illness, Thelma passed away January 1, 2016 at East Ridge Nursing Home in Abbeville under hospice care.

She is survived by her sons; James D. Thomas, Sr. and wife Donna, Karl W. Samples, Jr. and wife Justina; her Grandchildren, Brandon Thomas, James D. Thomas, Jr., Karla Samples and Kristina Samples. She is preceded in death by her husband Carl E. Slaughter and Great-Granddaughter Faith Marie Samples.
