Olan "Zar" Paul Mestayer
March 4, 1931 — January 13, 2016
Visitation will begin on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 4:00PM until 10:00PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 8:00AM until service time.
A native and lifelong resident of Loreauville, "Zar" as everyone knew him, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016 at 5:50AM at a Lafayette Hospital.
Mr. Mestayer proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. “Zar” was an avid Saints, LSU, and Loreauville High School football fan. He enjoyed attending football games, playing cards, and going to the horse races. During his younger days, he served as a Boy Scout Master. Mr. Mestayer had a tremendous work ethic. He had his own waste management company and was a hard working man, often working from dawn to dusk into his 70’s. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Annie Lou Mestayer of Loreauville; Children, Steven Mestayer of New Iberia, Dawn Mestayer of New Iberia, Chris Mestayer and wife Bonita Daigle of Loreauville, Boyd Mestayer and wife Jennifer Morel of Breaux Bridge; Grandchildren, Kirsten Mestayer of Youngsville, Trinity Durand of New Iberia, Regan Mestayer of Breaux Bridge, Kenedi Mestayer of Breaux Bridge; Brother, Earl Mestayer and wife Belle of Loreauville; and Sister, Dorothy Graves of Mississippi.
He was preceded in death by his Father, Edward Mestayer; Mother, Annette Bonin Mestayer; Brothers, Francis Mestayer, Elmo Mestayer; Sister, Anna Lee Clark, Granddaughter, Lexi Mestayer; and Infant Son, Mark Mestayer.
Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Steven Mestayer, Chris Mestayer, Boyd Mestayer, Aaron Mestayer, Gregory Mestayer, Regan Mestayer, Delton Dore, Mickey Durand.
The family would like to thank the Heart Hospital of Lafayette and Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion, and Gwen Prados Watkins for caring for Mrs. Mestayer during this difficult time.
