Delbert Louis Leggett, Sr.

??Lafayette - Funeral services for Delbert Louis Leggett, Sr, 65, will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at St. Anne´s Catholic Church, 201 Church Street, Youngsville, LA.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of services with a reception to follow in the St. Anne´s parish hall.
A resident of Youngsville, Delbert died at home under hospice care as a result of a six month battle with cancer complicated by a stroke. Wife Anita was at his bedside.
Delbert was born Houma, Louisiana  After graduating from Terrebonne High School in 1968, He attended LSU and Nicholls State. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve and then launched a professional journey that found him alternating for the rest of his professional life between his two loves, journalism and the oilfield. His first job as a young reporter at The Houma Courier included coverage of sports and local government.   Later, Delbert, wife, Anita, and young son, Louis, moved to Lafayette, La. in 1981, where  he re-entered oilfield work as a drilling fluids engineer, following the career path of his father, Clarke, one of the pioneers in the south Louisiana oilfield.  Soon, Delbert's love of the written word found him back in journalism and publishing at The Times of Acadiana. Ultimately he finished his career in the energy business. He retired in 2012 as Director of Client Relations and Marketing Director at Houston based Newpark Drilling Fluids.
Delbert's passions, aside from his deep love of family, included LSU football, talking politics, sailing -  and grooming his beautiful 11 acres in Youngsville on his 60 inch cut X-Mark 360 degree turning radius mower, a weekly source of and pride.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Gravois Leggett of 43 years;  son, D. Louis Leggett, Jr. and his wife Jennifer Dyer Leggett; sister, Sherry Davidson and husband Jim Davidson; grandchildren, Harrison Clarke Leggett and James Hadley Leggett.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother  D. Clarke Leggett and Doris Harvey Leggett.
