Olga “Tootie” Bourgeois Metz

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for Olga “Tootie” Bourgeois Metz, 82, on Friday, April 8, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, in New Iberia.  Fr. Nicholas DuPré will be the celebrant.  A gathering of family and friends will take in St. Peter’s Church at 12 noon, with a rosary at 1:00pm, followed by the Memorial Mass at 2:00pm.

Tootie has chosen to donate her body to science to further the research for a Parkinson’s disease cure.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Tootie passed away on Easter Sunday, March 27, 2016, at Garden View Assisted Living.

Tootie was an elementary school teacher for many years at Center Street Elementary.  She enjoyed life to the fullest and was a loving wife and mother.  She was very active in the Iberia Senior Olympics, participating in many different sports.  Tootie was a member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary.  She was very active in the PTA at North Street Elementary when her children were there.  More than anything, she loved to laugh and have a good time with friends and family.

Mrs. Metz is survived by her son, Robert Metz (Kitty) of New Iberia; daughters, Jennifer Landry of Lafayette, and Pamela Metz (Illiana Travino) of Virginia; sister, Betty Lipoma (Phil) of Texas, 4 grandchildren: Ryan Landry, Brett Landry, Sarah Trosclair (Timothy), and Steven Metz (Ashley); and 4 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Tootie was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Lorance Metz; infant son, Eric John Metz; mother, Gernice Savoie Bourgeois; and father, Robert Joseph Bourgeois.

A special thanks to AAA Home Health, Bridgeway Hospice, and her personal sitters, who made this transition as smooth as possible.  We will be forever grateful for her special friends at Garden View Assisted Living, who showed her love and kindness on a daily basis.  She considered Garden View her home, with the residents and staff as her family.

In lieu of flowers, a tribute page has been set up for the Michael J. Fox Parkinson’s Foundation at http://www.michaeljfox.org/tribute/tribute-page.php?id=19404 for comments or donations.

Family and friends wishing to express condolence can sign the online guestbook or contact Kitty Metz at St. Peter’s Christian Formation Office at 465-2164 for other donations or memorials.
