Jeanerette- Funeral Services will be held for Barney Joseph Hebert, 60, on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 12:00PM at David Funeral Home Chapel of Jeanerette with Deacon Chris Doumit to serve as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Beau Pre Cemetery.
Visitation will begin on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 6:00PM until 10:00PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, April 23, 2016 from 8:00AM until 11:45AM.
A native of Jeanerette and a longtime resident of New Iberia, “Buddy”, as he was affectionately known, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at his residence after a brave 10-month battle with Glioblastoma. He was a 1973 graduate of Jeanerette Senior High School and attended Teche Area Technical School before beginning his 37-year career in the oilfield industry. He started his career in 1979 with Texaco and was currently employed as a mechanical technician with Shell Pipeline. Mr. Hebert enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also loved traveling, woodworking and working on various projects in his shop.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kathleen Ivey Hebert of New Iberia; his daughters, Jennifer Landry and her husband Dr. Jason D. Landry of Jeanerette, and Elizabeth (Betsy) Bourgeois and husband Blake Bourgeois of Loreauville; his 4 grandchildren, André Landry, Elise Landry, Amelie Landry and Reed Bourgeois. He is also survived by his two brothers, Glenn M. Hebert and wife Tina of Lafayette, Daniel Hebert and wife Becky of Broussard; two sisters, Sue Bodin and husband Howard of Franklin, and Willa Boudreaux and husband Irving of New Iberia. Additional survivors include his sister-in-law, Marlene Johnson and her husband James of Bradford, Arkansas and numerous nieces and nephews. He also wanted to include his uncle Patrick Hebert, Sr. and cousins Mary Gerami Hebert and Jovana Gerami who were like sisters to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie J. Hebert and Nora Mae Hebert of Jeanerette.
Pallbearers will be Calvin Thomas, Steve Minvielle, Blake Bourgeois, Pat Isham, Gerry Ivey, Jr. and Dr. Jason D. Landry. Honorary Pallbearers will be André Landry, Glenn Hebert, James Johnson, Patrick Hebert, Sr., Kim Rentrop, Mike Trahan and Theron Johnson.
The family would like to thank the following for their wonderful care over the last 10 months; Dr. Jason D. Landry, Dr. Dani Bidros, Dr. Michael Cain with the Cancer Center of Acadiana, Dr. Jason Schumadine, Dr. David Baskin and Dr. Ivo Tremont with the Houston Methodist Hospital, Kenneth R. Peak Brain and Pituitary Tumor Treatment Center in Houston. We would also like to thank Mr. Ron Mount and Mr. Zachary David with Community Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request any donations to be made to the Kenneth R. Peak Center for Brain and Pituitary Tumors. Donations can be made online via www.houstonmethodist.org and select the Peak Center as the recipient. The Houston Methodist Hospital Foundation will also accept donations by calling (832) 667-5816.
