Billy L. Mickel

Jeanerette – Funeral services will be conducted for Billy L. Mickel, 75, on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 2:00 PM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Father Jody Simoneaux officiating.Readers for the mass will be his godchild, Julia Perret and his nephew, Randy Alley. Burial will follow in Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 29, 2016, from 9:00 AM until 1:45 PM and a rosary will be prayed in the funeral home at 11:00 AM.

A native of Lexington, NC and a resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Mickel passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at 9:12 PM in a New Iberia hospital.

He retired from the U.S. Navy after 33 years of service and served on the USS Independence CV6Z. He worked as a Machinist at Camco in Jeanerette and also delivered medications for Larroque Pharmacy. He enjoyed watching wrestling and loved to fish. He loved his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Shirley Derise Mickel of Jeanerette; his daughters, Teresa Mickel and Donna M. Camors and her husband Robert, III all of Jeanerette; his sister, Dot Meyers of Texas; his brother, Frank Clements of Fayetteville, NC and his grandchildren, Hillary Camors of Breaux Bridge, Robert Camors, IV, Thomas Lightell and Joshua Lightell all of Jeanerette.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter T. Mickel; his mother, Ora May Settle Mickel; his sisters, Betty Lou Mickel, Peggy Ann Mickel, Mary Ruth Mickel and Lucy Mickel and his brothers, J. D. Mickel and Tommy Mickel.

Pallbearers will be Robert Camors, III, Robert Camors, IV, Carol “Moonie” Aucoin, Andre Champagne, Clemile Baudoin, Frank Clements, Allen Baudoin, Dana Landry and Moise Guillotte.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clark Phillips, Bradley Phillips and Brian Phillips.
