Laura Landry Labit

New Iberia – Funeral services will be conducted for Laura Landry Labit, 76, on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 2:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Fr. Garrett Savoie officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 3, 2016, beginning at 10:00 AM until Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at 1:15 PM, the funeral home will remain open all night. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home at 7:00 PM follow by a Ritual Service by the V.F.W. Post 1982 Auxiliary and then by a Eulogy for Mrs. Labit.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Labit passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 6:00 PM in a New Iberia hospital.

Laura was born to Euraine T. Henry and Henry Harry Landry, Sr on Nov. 27, 1939. The most precious thing to Laura was her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. She and her children worked right alongside of her deceased husband Felton Labit on their family owned business as a Commercial Shrimper. She stood by her children’s side all through their school years, taking part as the President of the Parent Teacher Clubs and bringing them to all school functions, band concerts, chorus concerts and all school functions. She also was always concerned about her sisters and their families as well.

She was the President of the Parent Teacher Club for many years. She was the Grandmother Beauty Queen of Spring Festival Beauty Pageant in 1984. She was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post 1982 Auxiliary, where she volunteered faithfully every Sunday for Bingo even though in a wheel chair she kept trash pans emptied on her table. She enjoyed going to functions for her great grandchildren as well such as baseball games and band concerts. She enjoyed baking cakes and catering weddings.

She is survived by her children, Lori Labit Aguilar and her husband Luis of New Iberia, Ellis Labit, Sr. of Erath and Harriet Labit McClain of New Iberia; her sisters, Lula LeBlanc, Hazel LeBlanc and Barbara LeBlanc and her husband Gilbert all of New Iberia; her brother, Henry Harry Landry, Jr of Baton Rouge; her grandchildren, Pierre “P. J.” Melancon, Sr and his companion Angel Smith, Ellis Labit, Jr, Robert McClain, Jr and his wife Ladetia Renee and Alexis Aguilar and her great grandchildren, Angel Melancon, Pierre Melancon, Jr, Cadence King and Daylon King.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Felton Labit; her father, Henry Harry Landry, Sr; her mother, Euranie Touchet Henry; her brothers, Daniel Landry and Kenwood Derouen; her brother-in-law’s, Jean LeBlanc, Wilbert LeBlanc, Hillis Labit and Ledas Labit and her sister-in-law’s, Ledia Guidry, Euna Mae Labit and Elsie Landry.

Pallbearers will be Ellis Labit, Sr, Ellis Labit, Jr, Pierre Melancon, Sr, Robert McClain, Jr, Luis Aguilar and Joseph King.

Honorary pallbearers will be Alexis Aguilar, Angel Melancon, Pierre Melancon, Jr, Cadence King, Daylon King and Angel Smith.
