John Bufford

Cow Island-A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. John Henry Bufford will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 23, 2016 at St. Anne Catholic Church in Cow Island with Father Michael Keith Landry officiating. Interment will follow in St. Anne cemetery.

Visitation will be at David Funeral Home of Abbeville on Sunday, May 22, 2015 from 3;00 PM until 9:00 PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00PM.  Visitation will resume on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 9:00AM until the time of Service at 1:00PM.

A native and resident of Cow Island, Mr. John died at 8:20 AM on Friday, May 20, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.  While John was a boat captain for most of his life, his hobbies were mainly outdoors.  He loved working in his garden and growing okra.  While riding on Alexander Rd, it was a good possibility you would see Mr. John driving on his lawn mower and cutting grass as he really took pride in his lawn.  Listening to the passionate music that came from his accordion as he played, John would offer a hint into his admiration for the tradition of the Cajun French Culture.  Listening to country music really got him moving but the sparkle in his eye came from spending time with his grand children and great-grand children.  He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mrs. Mary Suire Bufford, his son, Curtis Lee Bufford, his daughters, Priscilla Anne Bufford and Jacqueline B. Horaist and her husband Jerrell all of Cow Island, his brothers Ernest Bufford, Robert Bufford, Doris Bufford, Wilbert Bufford; and his sister, Mavis Luquette;  his grandchildren, Lauren Choate, Tonya Lassiter, Mathew Primeaux, Andrew Horaist;  and his great-grand children Ayden Choate, Leo Choate, Jondavid Lassiter, Joseph Lassiter, Jackson Lassiter, Shailey Trahan, and Seth Choate.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ophe’ Bufford,  and Beulah Broussard Bufford, his brothers, Minos and Ravis Bufford, and his sister Myrtis Bufford.

Upholding the honor as pallbearers are Wilbert Bufford, David Lassiter, Mathew Primeaux, Ernest Bufford, Robert Bufford and Jay Suire.
