New Iberia - Funeral services will be held for Mr. Joseph Willie Prejean, 88, on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00AM at David Funeral Chapel of New Iberia with Monsignor Richard Green to serve as the Celebrant. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
Visitation will begin on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 4:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 6:00PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 8:00AM until service time.
A native of Church Point and resident of New Iberia, Joseph Willie Prejean passed away on Wednesday, June 01, 2016 at 3:15 PM at Maison Teche Nursing Home.
A retired master welder, Mr. Prejean was as naturally gifted and talented in metal fabrication as he was in his role as his neighborhood master gardener. Few things brought him more joy and pleasure than growing an array of vegetables annually, which he gladly gave to those he encountered. A life member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, his devotion and faith in the Lord never faltered, even when his health did not allow him to physically attend or participate in Mass.
He is survived by daughters, Brenda Prejean Boutte, of Newnan, GA, and Mary Lisa Prejean of New Iberia; grandchildren, Michelle Boutte-Clark & husband Paul of Toano, VA, Marcie Boutte of Newnan, GA, Melanie Boutte of Newnan, GA, Sarah Prejean of New Orleans, Benjamin Aman of Chicago, IL, and Kyle Mestayer & wife Michelle Prejean of Deridder and his 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Roma Nell Miller Prejean; his father, Felecian Prejean; and mother, CoraLee Faul Prejean; daughter, Kathy P. Mestayer, great grandchild, Cody Matthew Kinsey; and son-in-law, Allen Paul Boutte.
Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Bill Myers, Ty Landry, Wyatt Kinsey, Terry Prejean, Andrew Prejean, and Kyle J. Mestayer. Honorary Pallbearers will be John D. Miller, and Paul Clark.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and appreciation to Dr. George B. Cousin, Dr. Paul Gulotta, the ER staff of Iberia Medical Center, Hospice of Acadiana and most importantly the staff of Maison Teche Nursing home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Hospice of Acadiana in Mr. Joseph Willie Prejean’s honor.
