A native of Iberia Parish and a resident of Loreauville, LA, Nicholas passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at home surrounded by loved ones, after a long battle with Peripheral T-cell Lymphoma.
He is survived by his father, Edward Segura Bienvenu, and one sister, Danielle Alix Bienvenu. He has been a resident of Faubourg, a small settlement near Loreauville, almost all of his life.
Nicholas is also survived by his maternal grandparents, Leo Joseph Frederick, Sr. and Shirley Verret Frederick of Loreauville, Paternal grandparents, Harold George Bienvenu, Jr. and Sylvia Ann Segura Bienvenu, many aunts, uncles and cousins on both sides of the family, and a friend, Ms. Brandi Rogers.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jennifer Ann Frederick Bienvenu, and an uncle Bret Christopher Frederick.
Nicholas was a 2001 graduate of Catholic High School in New Iberia, LA.
He had a love of farming and related agricultural work involving equipment operations, distinguishing himself as a capable employee for several local sugarcane farming operations and for a regional Right of Way clearing and logistics company, Woodson, Inc. of Plaquemine, LA, running airboats. He spent the last five years of employment with Judice Brothers Farms of Loreauville, LA, an opportunity he loved.
Nicholas enjoyed most outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, boating, camping, ATV riding and long range rifle marksmanship, a recent hobby.
He was known to his friends and relatives as humorous and friendly. He could tell a story and make people laugh.
Considering his personal cancer experience and that of his mother, he supported the local “Friends of George Gros’ (F.O.G.G.)” Be the Match” bone marrow donor registry campaign. He chose many treatment regimens of clinical trial studies, as his mother did, in an effort to also help others by what may be learned from the treatment of his somewhat rare disease.
Like his mother, he was an incredibly tough and hardened warrior in the cancer battle, enduring severe suffering from the various chemotherapies and countless procedures, including self-donor stem cell transplant. Yet, he was determined to fight on, year after year, often surprising his doctors and hospital staff.
I am humbled by the strength and stoic grit he has demonstrated in his nearly 10 years of cancer care and recuperation. I am privileged to call him my son.
He will be dearly missed by those who knew him and particularly by his canine pal, “Louis”, who helped him through his medical trials, providing comfort, entertainment, diversion and unconditional love.
Our family would like to thank his team of doctors, nurses and medical staff, and the Heart of Hospice team who took wonderful care of him at the end. Also, our thanks go to his close circle of friends and family that provided him and our family with care and support. Their skill and compassion was a great comfort.
Pall bearers will be: Ory Begnaud, Cody Frederick, Willie Ronsonet, Dustin Ronsonet, Matt Dawson, Ames Dupuis, Brooks Hebert, Hubert Landry, Jr. and Godchild Lane Frederick.
David Funeral Home in Loreauville, 118 Main St. (337) 229-8338 is in charge of arrangements.
