Broussard- Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Broussard, LA on Thursday, June 30, 2016, at 2 p.m. for Eugene Garber Sr., age 85. He had a long battle with multiple health issues but never gave up hope or faith.
Interment will be in Sacred Heart Mausoleum.
Rev. Bill Ruskoski will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and Funeral Services. The lector will be Linda Garber.
Survivors include his lovely and devoted wife of 59 ½ years, Gladys Landry Garber, his son, Gene Garber Jr., and his wife, Suzette, his daughter, Justine Garber Lamperez and her husband, Chad, his daughter, Germaine Garber Zaunbrecher and her husband, Nick, and his son, Jake Garber and his wife, Janee’. Grandchildren include Jaret Garber and his wife, Sheree’, Tiffany Garber LeBla nc and her husband, Cody, Brooke Garber LeBlanc and her husband, Ben, Tyler Garber, Jenais Lamperez Broussard and her husband, BJ, Hillary, Hannah, and Hailey Zaunbrecher, Emily and Peyton Garber, and great grandchildren, Gracee Lamperez, Ryder and Reece LeBlanc, and Caitlen and Caroline Garber, and his special baby sister, Pearl Olivier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosemond J. Garber and the former Sedonia Landry, and his brother, J.B. Garber.
Mr. Garber was a veteran of military service having served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict from August, 1948, to July, 1952, as a ship electrician serving on the U.S.S. Warrington in San Diego, California, the U.S.S. Hale and the U.S.S. Cascade.
He was employed by Freeport Sulphur for 14 years and retired with Dow Chemical.
Giftbearers will be his granddaughters, Tiffany Garber LeBlanc, Brooke Garber LeBlanc, Jenais Lamperez Broussard, Hillary, Hannah, and Hailey Zaunbrecher, and Emily Garber.
Pallbearers will be his two sons, Gene and Jake Garber, his two sons-in-law, Chad Lamperez and Nick Zaunbrecher, and his grandsons Jaret, Tyler and Peyton Garber.
The family requests that visitation be observed in David’s Funeral Home, 316 Youngsville Hwy., Lafayette, LA, from 9 a.m. until time of services. The rosary will be recited by Voorhies Short at 11 a.m.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Kenneth McCarron and staff, the Coumadin Center, Lafayette General’s ER, ICU, and 8 th floor staff members.
