Iola Williams

Jeanerette—A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Iola Derise Williams, age 90, on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 10:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church with Fr. Jody Simoneaux officiating; Robert Williams and Elizabeth Andrepont proclaiming the readings.

Interment will follow at St. John the Evangelist Mausoleum.

Visitation will begin Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 6:30 PM. Visitation will continue on Friday, July 15, 2016 at 8:00 AM.

Iola Williams passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 12:50 AM at Senior Village Nursing Home in Opelousas, LA.

Iola was born in Jeanerette and was a lifelong resident. She was a member of the VFW and The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a very devout Catholic. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, canning and baking. Most of all she truly loved her husband and nurturing her eight children through food and her wisdom.

She is survived by sons: Ernest Williams, Jr. and wife Midge of Houston, TX, Robert Williams and wife Debbie of Plano, TX, Michael Williams and wife Trudy of Jeanerette, and Stephen Williams of New Iberia; daughters: Elizabeth Andrepont and husband Dirk of Opelousas, Patricia Michel of Opelousas, Mary Dean and husband Mike of Opelousas, and Iola Bordelon and husband Bruce of Plano, TX; siblings: Leatrice Marquette and husband Marcel of Jeanerette, Nellie Derise of Jeanerette, Mazie Mendoza of Jeanerette and O’Neil Derise, Jr. and wife Dianne of Jeanerette; 29 grandchildren; and 33 great grandchildren.

Iola was preceded in death by husband Ernest E. Williams, Sr.; her parents, O’Neil Derise, Sr. and Anita Savoy Derise; sister, Juanita Jumonville; son-in-law Bennett Michel.

Serving as pallbearers; Robert Williams, Michael Williams, Stephen Williams, Mike Dean, Dirk Andrepont, Bruce Bordelon.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ernest Williams, Jr. and Jonathan Andrepont.
