Merline Menard Viator
April 5, 1939 — July 16, 2016
Visitation will begin on Monday, July 18, 2016 at 5:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 from 9:00AM until 1:15PM.
A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Viator passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 2:00PM at her residence surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Viator held numerous small jobs throughout her life but being a homemaker and taking care of her family brought her the most joy. She also volunteered at Our Lady of Prompt Succor as the church’s secretary for over 20 years during the tenure of Father Ed Degeyter and after. She was also a member of the Ladies Alter Society at Our Lady of Prompt Succor. In her younger days Mrs. Viator enjoyed camping with her family and cross stitching. Recently she enjoyed coloring and as an avid reader, she enjoyed her quiet time with her mystery novels on her kindle. Mrs. Viator will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory is her Husband of 60 years, Presley Viator of Coteau; Children, Brent Viator of Franklin, Kenneth Viator and wife Jenny of Coteau, Keith Viator and wife Sue of Coteau, Sherry Viator of Carencro, Patty Gonzales and husband Gerald of New Iberia, Ellen McDonald and husband Brent of New Iberia, Wayne Viator of Coteau; 13 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; two Brothers, Shelton Menard of New Iberia, and Ronald Menard of New Iberia; Sister, Mona Gary of New Iberia; two Uncles, Willis Menard of New Iberia, and Felix Menard of New Iberia; and Aunt, Evelyn Broussard of Broussard.
She was preceded in death her Father, August Menard, Sr; Mother, Verna Boutte Menard; Sister, Pauline M. Cormier; and Brother, August Menard, Jr.
Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Brent Viator, Jared Viator, Jonathan Viator, Matthew McDonald, Blake Viator, and Hanna McDonald. Honorary Pallbearers will be Keith Viator, Kenneth Viator, Wayne Viator, Shelton Menard, Gerald Gonzales, and Brent McDonald.
The family would like to thank to the nurses and staff of Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion through this difficult time.
