New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Robert J. “Bobby” Bodin, Sr., 68, on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 11:00 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Father Willam Blanda officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors presented by the New Iberia Veterans Honor Guard.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 26, 2016, from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM and resume on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A Rosary will be prayed in the funeral home by the Men’s Rosary Group on Tuesday at 6:00 PM.
Bobby was born in Fordtown, TN and was a longtime resident of New Iberia. He passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 6:21 AM upon arrival at Iberia Medical Center.
He graduated from New Iberia Senior High School in 1965 and then went to U.S.L. (UL of Lafayette). He served in the Louisiana Army National Guard. He was elected and served on the New Iberia City Council from 1980 until 1984; New Iberia Mayor Pro Tem from 1984 until 1988 and New Iberia Mayor from 1988 until 1992. He was known to many students in Iberia Parish as “The Candyman”.
He was an avid baseball player and coached in the American Legion League and many Little Leagues and was a member of the American Legion State Champs in 1966. He was the announcer at Catholic High School and New Iberia Senior High Baseball Games and New Iberia Senior High Football Games.
He was a longtime member of the New Iberia Jaycees, a member of the Mens Rosary Group served as an Usher at St. Peters Catholic Church, a member of RCAF at UL of Lafayette and an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and sports fan especially Saints Football and U L Ragin Cajun Sports.
Most recently Bobby volunteered as a DJ at local nursing homes, assisted living homes and for ARC of Acadiana.
He loved his family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Liz” Molbert Bodin of New Iberia; his sons, Robert “Bobby” Bodin, Jr. and his wife Kristin, Brad Michael Bodin and his wife Karen all of Lafayette, Timothy Eric DeClouet and his wife Angelique of New Iberia and Benjamin David DeClouet and his wife Amber of Sulphur; his brothers, Curtis J. Bodin, Jr. of Lafayette, Ronald M. Bodin of Houston, TX and Errol Bodin of Virginia; his sisters, Delores Lanza of New Iberia, Tina Pyne of Houston, TX and Kay Bodin of Birmingham, AL and his loving grandchildren, Emily, Timmy, Maci, Maggie, Evan, Elli and Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis J. Bodin, Sr.; his mother, Elda Richard Bodin and his sister, Dot Landry.
Pallbearers will be Ronald Bodin, Errol Bodin, Timothy DeClouet, Jr., Will Langlinais, Curtis Bodin, Jr. and Harry “Bud” Cestia.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Angers, Sr., Gil Primeaux, Ricky Pisani, Roger Pisani and Kevin Hebert.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to Ragin Cajun Atheltic Foundation and / or the Community Foundation of Acadiana/Iberia Parish Foundation.
