Mazel Derouen

New Iberia—A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mazel Laperouse Derouen, age 78, on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 10:00 AM at St. Peters Catholic Church with Fr. William Blanda officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum in New Iberia, LA.

Visitation will begin at David Funeral Home of New Iberia on Friday, September 16, 2016, from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 8:00 AM until the time of service.

Mazel L. Derouen passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at 11:16 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette, LA.

Mazel enjoyed playing Pokeno, solving puzzles, watching old western movies, game shows, tennis matches and most of all she truly loved babysitting her great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish her memory are her three children; son, Kenneth Derouen, Jr. and his wife Tammy of New Iberia; daughter, Sandy D. Viator and her husband Randy of New Iberia; son, Kevin Derouen and his wife Michelle of Maurice; brother, Jim Laperouse and his wife Delta of St. Martinville; sisters, Joanne Amy and her husband Rufus of St. Martinville, Diane Menard and companion Doug of St. Martinville, and Linda Faye Hulin and husband Petit of Cypress Island; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mazel is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth C. Derouen, Sr.; her parents Edmond and Inez Johnson Laperouse; brothers, Edmond Laperouse, Jr., Roy Laperouse; sisters, Hazel Belaire, Irene St. Germain, Ahmet Laperouse, Earline Chauplan , Mabel Monte and Suzanne Deslatte.

Serving as pallbearers; Kenneth Derouen, Jr., Kevin Derouen, Randy Viator, Brock Derouen, Dylan Viator, Tim Amy, John “Boomer” Blanchard and Jason Trahan.
