Porfirio G. "P.G." Garcia, Jr.

Lafayette- A service celebrating the life and legacy for Porfirio G. Garcia Jr., age 93, will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, September 26, 2016 at David Funeral Home Chapel with Father William Schambough officiating.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2016 from 2:00PM until 9:00PM with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will resume on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 8:00AM until the time of the services. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Milton.

Mr. Garcia was a native of McAllen, Tx. and died on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 near his residence in Youngsville. He was a Seabee in the Navy during WWII, where he worked as an electrician. He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. A year later he would obtain a Masters degree in mathematics from the University of Auburn. In his younger years he worked for a local geology company. In the year 1955, he joined the staff of S.L.I. He would become very well known and respected within the mathematics department, as S.L.I. would later become U.S.L. He retired in 1988 after 33 years of teaching on a collegiate level. After retiring, his hobbies became tending to his property and playing Sudoku but his passion in life was proving that the number of prime pairs is infinite. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his sons, Eugene Garcia and his wife Linda, Edgar Garcia and his wife Brenda, and Paul Garcia and his wife Barbara; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Benith Trahan Garcia; his parents, P.G., Sr. and Victoria Garza Garcia, and his son, Edward Garcia.
