Janis Marie Wilson

New Iberia- Funeral services will be held for Ms. Janis Marie Wilson, age 67, on Monday, September 26, 2016, at  11:00AM at the David Funeral Home Chapel of New Iberia with Father Kendall Faulk of St. Marcellus Catholic Church to serve as the Celebrant.  Interment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will begin on Sunday, September 25, 2016, at 5:00PM until 8:30PM with a recitation of the Rosary at 7:00PM. Visitation will continue on Monday, September 26, 2016, from 8:00AM until service time.

A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Ms. Wilson passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016, at 5:30AM at her residence.

Ms. Wilson was a graduate of the University of Southwestern Louisiana, receiving both her Bachelors’ and Masters’ Degrees. After college she taught for fourteen years at Center St. Elementary. She was an assistant principal for six years at North Lewis Elementary and a principal for twenty-one years at Magnolia Elementary until her retirement.  In her spare time she enjoyed playing golf, fishing and gardening.

She is survived by her two nephews, Christopher Biggerstaff and wife Kimberly of The Woodlands, TX, Heath Biggerstaff and wife Tracy of Youngsville; one niece, Jessica Moody and husband Brian of Katy, TX; sister-in-law, Verna Biggerstaff of New Iberia; one grandnephew; and five grandnieces.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mack Wilson; mother, Irene Cestia Wilson; brother, Clayton Biggerstaff; infant sister, Neila Jean Biggerstaff; and one niece, Jennifer Biggerstaff.

Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Christopher Biggerstaff, Heath Biggerstaff, Wayne Cestia, Burt Cestia, Brian Moody, and Gail Cuccio.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Pamela Delaune and the teachers and staff of Magnolia Elementary.

The family would like to thank all of Ms. Wilson’s friends and caregivers for all of their compassion and support.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Ms. Wilson’s honor to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
