Harris Morvant

Lafayette – Funeral services for Harris Marion Morvant, 91, will be held Thursday September 29, 2016 at 10:00AM at St. Anne Catholic Church in Youngsville, with Fr. Ed Degeyter officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday at St. Anne Catholic Church from 9:00AM until time of services. Burial will follow in St. Anne Mausoleum.
Mr. Morvant was a Veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army Infantry, Company H, 37th Division, 129th Infantry, known as “The Fighting Buckeyes”. Served in the Northern Solomon Islands and the Southern Philippines… he “returned” with Macarthur. He received the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a Plank
Owner and a lifetime member of the Youngsville VFW Post 9210- member since 1947. He was a student and then History Teacher at Youngsville High School and served as Principle of Youngsville Elementary School for over 20 years. He was dedicated to and had a great love for his students. He was very proud to follow the success of so many who passed through the halls of Y.H.S and Y.E.S. He was a long time care giver for his wife, Stella, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease. He was quite the story teller, with a sharp wit and enthusiastic laugh. He also enjoyed going to the casino with friends and a good game of bouree’. “Uncle Harris” will be sorely missed by three generations of Morvant, Pellerin, and Comeaux family. He was also a member of the retired Teachers Assn., the Lion Club and
First Pioneer with Bell South, he also work for David Hardware for 10 years.
Survivors include Sister Nell M. Vallot of Youngsville; nieces Dawn V. Declouet of New Iberia, and Melissa V. Trahan of Monroe; nephews Earl “Chip” Vallot Jr. of Youngsville, Albert Morvant of Youngsville, and Hays Morvant of Aledo Texas.
Mr. Morvant was preceded in death by his wife Stella Jeanne Comeaux Morvant; his parents Moise and Gertrude Pellerin Morvant; and his brother Adam “Bud” Morvant. Serving as pallbearers: “Chip” Vallot, Jr., Hayes Morvant, Albert Morvant, Alex Declouet, David Declouet, Danny Hebert and Harry Trahan.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers: Janet Viguerie, Rose Perkins, Romona Briscoe, and Katie Handy, as well as Hospice of Acadiana for their special care and attention over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to La. Retired Teachers Assn.
