New Iberia - A Memorial Mass celebrating the life and devotion of Mrs. Edel B. Broussard known lovingly as "Nana", age 86, will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Father Keith Landry officiating and Mrs. Billie Sue Kramer as vocalist.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Nana passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016 at 8:27 AM at Opelousas General Hospital. Even in death, Nana continues her legacy of volunteering and helping others as she without hesitation donated her body to the Tulane University School of Medicine of New Orleans to aid in their endeavors of education and medical research.
Mrs. Edel was born on February 7, 1930 from the union of the late; Mr. Joseph Broussard and the former Miss Eva Landry. An only child, Edel, was reared in a loving Catholic home instilling in her the virtues she lived by daily. Edel remained a devoted Parishioner at St. Peter's Catholic Church. In addition to rearing her own three children, Nana was always willing to help with the needs of others. Nana graciously volunteered at the St. Francis Diner and for 12 years as a "Pink Lady" of Iberia Medical Center. Her heart and door were always open. Mrs. Edel never met a stranger, always carried a smile, and was the greatest of cooks. Nana carried a special love of animals, especially her dogs, who she often treated as her babies. A friend to all she encountered, the passing of Nana will be immensely noticeable and she will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
Mrs. Edel was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Edmund Malcolm Broussard and her infant grandson Brad Broussard. She is survived by two sons, Edmund Malcolm "Mac" Broussard Jr. and wife Diane of Roanoke, VA and Bryant D. Broussard of Eugene, OR and her daughter Gwendolyn B. "Gwen" Taylor and husband Willie "Buddy" Taylor of Opelousas; six grandchildren; Cheramie B. Joubert, Abbey B. Rubel, Bridget Broussard, Brittany B. Henderson, Blaine Taylor, Brant Taylor and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Nana's wishes, please make a donation to the charity of your choice honoring the life and endless love of Mrs. Edel B."Nana" Broussard.
