Ferdinand C. Breaux
Loreauville, LA – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mr. Ferdinand Breaux, age 91, on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 3:00PM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Buddy Breaux officiating and Fr. Paul Onugebe to serve as Con-celebrant with musical accompaniment by Gannon Dooley. Reading from scripture will be Hallie Bier, Allison Hollier, and Kristen Hollier. Miriam Hollier and Makenzie LeBlanc will bring up the gifts. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum in New Iberia.
Visitation will begin at David Funeral Home of Loreauville at 9AM until service time with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10AM.
A native and long-time resident of Loreauville, Mr. Breaux passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 8:57PM at his home.
Mr. Breaux graduated in 1943 from Loreauville High School and immediately joined his father on the sugarcane farm. As a young man, he kept busy raising a number of farm animals and gradually added more and more sugarcane to the farm operation. Mr. Breaux was one of the original stockholders of the Cajun Sugar Cooperative in New Iberia. He also was a field representative for the Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. He served as Iberia Parish School Board member, company sponsor for the New Iberia Chapter of the Woodman of the World Fraternal Organization, Atchafalaya Basin Levee Board member, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Joseph Catholic Church. His most memorable quality was his determination and tenacity to move forward and accomplish his goals.
Mr. Breaux was married to the late Goldie Viator Breaux for 67 years. Together, they raised 5 children and helped in the care of their aged parents. Mr. Breaux is survived by his children, Beryl Breaux Thornton and husband, August Thornton of Pittsboro, NC, Samuel Leverette Breaux and companion, Tammy Broussard of Coteau, LA, Bernard Rodney Breaux and wife, Belinda Baine Breaux of Madisonville, LA, Melanie Breaux Wiley and husband, Damon Wiley of Lafayette, LA and Miriam Breaux Hollier and husband, Brent Hollier of Lafayette LA. Mr. Breaux was proud of all his grandchildren: Spencer, Richmond and Victoria Louf Thornton, Trevor and Aleisha Smith Thornton, Hallie Breaux Bier, married to David Bier, Blake Breaux, Baine and Amanda Hebert Breaux, Brunet, Brennan, and Brierre Breaux, Mark and Michael Wiley, Allison, Kristen, and Brody Hollier, Casey Patin and Makenzie LeBlanc. His great grandchildren include Matthew and Emily Bier, Adelaide and Olivia Breaux and Harlow Rainwater.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand Breaux Sr. and Dozia Gonsoulin Breaux, and siblings Anite B. Gondron, Stella B. Broussard, Jeanne B. Dugas, Lylia B. Boutte, Etta B. Dugas, Felix Breaux, Burton Breaux, Leonard Breaux, and Lester Breaux. In-laws who preceded him in death include Rebellion Viator, Ethel Mae Pesson Viator Gisclair, and James Viator.
His extended family includes nephews and nieces, George, Shara (deceased), Jack, Bonnie, Ted, Mary Ann, Junelle, Jason, Georgette, Irvin, Bonnie, Gerald, Lynn, Rita Gale, Peggy, Darryl, Joy (deceased), Woody, Kenny, Jennifer, Keith, R. J., Steve, Goldie, Shirley, Rosie, Jane, Melvin (deceased), Glenn, and Earl James, and sister-in-law, Olga Breaux.
Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Major Richmond Thornton, US Army, Trevor Thornton, Blake Breaux, Baine Breaux, Brunet Breaux, Brennan Breaux, Brierre Breaux, Mark Wiley, Michael Wiley and Brody Hollier.
The family would like to thank their father’s caregivers, Betty Broussard, Lisa Pastor, and Judy Reed; Dr. Timothy Viator; and the AAA Hospice staff for the excellent care and compassion given to their father.
