New Iberia- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Mazel Melancon Vaughn, age 94, on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 2:00PM at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Father Ed Degeyter to serve as the Celebrant. Reading from scripture will be Autry Berard II and Mandy Cormier. Giftbearers will be Desi Cormier and Paige Weaver. Interment will follow at Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.
Visitation will begin on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at 9:00AM until service time with a recitation of the Rosary at 11:00AM.
A native of Catahoula and resident of St. Martin Parish, Mrs. Vaughn passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at 7:00 PM at her home with her family by her side.
Alongside her husband Mrs. Vaughn was co-owner and operator of Claude Vaughn Inc. for many many years. Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, fishing and traveling. When she wasn’t outside or on the open road, she could be found sewing, cooking, crafting, and decorating her home. She also enjoyed playing bingo and visiting the casino. But her favorite part of each day was the time she got to spend with her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Jackie Berard & husband Autry, Sr. of New Iberia, Marietta Cormier & husband Rodney "Rock" of New Iberia; grandchildren, Claudette Berard of New Iberia, Autry Berard II and companion Michael Kimble of New Iberia, Mandy Cormier of New Iberia; great grandchildren, Stephanie Domingue, Paige Weaver, Desi Cormier of New Iberia; great great grandchildren, Jonathan Powers and Kaylee Powers of New Iberia; and three sisters, Bernice Hebert of Sugarland, TX, Betty Doucet of Catahoula, and Beverly Doucet and husband Ivan of Catahoula.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Claude Joseph Vaughn; great grandson, Stephen Berard; mother, Edmonia Robicheaux Melancon; father, Gilbert Melancon, three brothers, Hubert Melancon, Roland Melancon, Stanley Melancon; and one sister, Claudia Lasseigne.
Upholding the honor of Pallbearers are Autry Berard, Sr., Autry Berard, II, Rodney Cormier, Michael Kimble, Barney Hebert, Marcell Hebert, and Earl Guidry.
A special thanks to Hospice of Acadiana; caregiver and granddaughter, Claudette Berard; and nurses Judith and Louise of all of their care and compassion given to Mrs. Mazel.
