New Iberia- A Mass of Christian burial for Mrs. Martha B. Ramos will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with Father Paul Onugebe officiating. Interment will follow in Nativity of Our Lady Mausoleum.
A gathering of family and friends in honor of Mrs. Ramos will be held at Our Lady of Nativity Church on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 9:00 AM until the time of the services at 11:00 AM, with the Men's Rosary Group praying the rosary at 10:00 AM.
A native of Banker Plantation in Vermilion Parish, she was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau and would go on to Graduate with a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Southwestern University. Mrs. Martha was a devout Catholic who committed her life to serving Jesus and responded to her calling with a sense of urgency. She belonged to many organizations such as The Catholic Legion of Mary, Catholic Daughters of America, and The Carmelite Third Order. She created a leaflet in many languages sent around the world to spread the message of Christ called "The Jesus Mary Joseph Apostolate". She founded the Adoration Chapel at St. Josephs Church in Loreauville and was also a member of the Blue Army of Our Lady of Fatima. Mrs. Martha obediently attended Daily Mass until she took her final breath at Consolata Nursing Home on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at 7:00 AM. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by a daughter, Maria Teresa Thomas "Tere" and her husband William J. Thomas III "Mac", a daughter, Carmen Jefferson and her husband Charles B. Jefferson, brothers, Dr. William Broussard, and Charles Broussard.
She is Preceded in death by her husband Harold L. Ramos, her father Alphe A. Broussard, and her mother Odile Cade Broussard, her sister Myrtis Bourge, and a daughter Martha Sandoz McDonald.
Upholding the honor of pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jonathan H. Sandoz, R. Barrett Thomas, William C. Thomas, Grant E. Thomas, Michael D. Hebert, Ryan P. Hebert and Scott F. Hebert. The giftbearers will be her granddaughters, Nicole M. Peterson, Erin L. Haik, Laura E. Cope, Danelle M. Sorrel, and Daphne F. Smith.
The family would like to give a special thanks to a very dear friend and caregiver Geraldine Boutte. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Elaine Bourda, and the staff of Heart of Hospice and the staff of Consolata for the excellent care that was given to Mrs. Ramos.
In Lieu of flowers Mrs. Martha requested that masses be said on behalf of her soul.
